About The Position

The Procurement Category Analyst is responsible for protecting margin and improving supplier cost performance through disciplined review of all incoming cost changes, proactive category pricing analysis, and strategic buying recommendations. This role provides analytical support to the purchasing team by identifying cost reduction opportunities, validating pricing alignment within categories, and developing actionable insights tied to demand, inventory, and supplier strategy.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Finance, Supply Chain, Business, or related work experience
  • 3–7+ years of experience in purchasing, cost analysis, financial analysis, or related analytical role
  • Advanced Excel skills (analysis, modeling, scenario work)
  • Experience working with ERP and PIM systems
  • Strong analytical, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in foodservice distribution procurement or related industries
  • Power BI or other data visualization/reporting tools
  • Familiarity with supplier cost drivers and commodity-based pricing dynamics

Responsibilities

  • Cost Change Review & Governance
  • Review 100% of incoming supplier cost changes for accuracy, justification, and competitive reasonableness.
  • Compare proposed costs to current pricing, historical trends, and category benchmarks to identify pushback opportunities.
  • Quantify the financial impact of supplier increases and support buyers/category managers with fact-based negotiation inputs and counterproposals.
  • Category Pricing Alignment & PIM Audits
  • Conduct structured, category-by-category pricing reviews using the PIM to identify misaligned pricing across comparable products, brands, supplier tiers, and contract structures.
  • Partner with buyers and stakeholders to resolve pricing inconsistencies and improve category integrity and margin consistency.
  • Identify opportunities to re-source products or improve supplier alignment when pricing is not competitive or consistent.
  • Strategic Buys & Forward Buy Analysis
  • Proactively evaluate forward-buy opportunities when price increases are announced, including ROI modeling and recommendations.
  • Analyze and support strategic purchases tied to limited-time opportunities (e.g., show specials, conference buys, year-end programs) with clear ROI justification.
  • Collaborate with demand planning and inventory stakeholders to support disciplined execution and avoid unintended inventory risk.
  • Purchasing Analytics & Performance Support
  • Serve as the purchasing team’s analytics resource for planned demand performance, category trends, and supplier profitability insights.
  • Build/maintain dashboards and recurring reporting that connect cost movement, buying decisions, and margin outcomes.
  • Track and report key outcomes (cost avoidance, margin impact, pricing alignment improvements, strategic buy performance).
