The Processing Laboratory Assistant I, receives specimens into the Clinical Laboratory for testing, and provides processing support for specimens going out to reference laboratories. The incumbent will be responsible for registering and receiving specimens, completing requisitions, labeling specimens, stabilizing specimens, checking specimen integrity, and assisting in packaging specimens for transportation according to DOT standards. This employee will be handling biohazardous materials, and chemicals such as alcohol, xylene, and formalin and will be trained to safely handle specimens with these additives. Excels in an environment where multiple people must work as a team and have a strong focus on customer and patient satisfaction. Efficiently handles all duties and responds to emergent situations in a calm and professional manner using a positive approach and attitude. Provides backup support for the Outpatient Laboratory, waived testing, specimen processing, and courier packet preparation, in addition to reception and clerical activities for the laboratory.
