About The Position

The Johnston County Public Health Department, WIC Division is hiring for a full-time Processing Assistant IV. Clerical duties for the Women, Infant and Children (WIC) Program include working in NC Crossroads computer system, initiating WIC applications by determining financial, residential and categorical eligibility for WIC applicants, educating participants on using eWIC card and WIC benefits, issuing food benefits, completing voter registration duties for eligible parents/guardians/caretakers, performing lab tasks including measuring weight, length or height, and finger sticks to check hemoglobin level, answering and returning phone calls, providing low risk nutrition education to designated participants, making/rescheduling appointments, completing reminder calls for future appointments, assisting with transferring participants into local agency, assisting with outreach efforts, filing, copying, preparing information for mailings to participants, assisting with vendor management activities that includes vendor training and store monitoring, and traveling within Johnston County to satellite clinics or other outreach efforts, assuring compliance with WIC and Health Department policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school
  • At least two years of office assistant/secretarial experience
  • Demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills and abilities gained through experience
  • Significant knowledge of office or work unit procedures, methods and practices
  • Significant knowledge of and ability to use correct grammar, vocabulary, spelling and office terminology
  • Significant knowledge of accounting procedures and mathematics
  • Ability to learn and independently apply laws and departmental rules and regulations
  • Ability to review and process information to determine conclusions, actions or compliance
  • Ability to apply a variety of work-related formulas or mathematical calculations
  • Ability to record, compile, summarize and perform basic analysis of data
  • Ability to independently work with people with courtesy and tact in performing public contact duties
