Process Technology Operator Intern Overview Marathon Petroleum Company LP, a major petroleum refiner and marketer, has Process Technology Operator Internship opportunities at its Louisiana Refining Division refinery in Garyville, LA. This internship is a one-semester program that may start as early as August 2026. Responsibilities The goal of this program is to provide a hands-on learning experience to qualified individuals who are enrolled in a 2-year Process Technology Program which leads to an Associate’s of Applied Science Degree or is a recent graduate (one year) of the program. This will give students an opportunity to develop and apply knowledge, technical skills, and interpersonal skills in the workplace under the direction of a Garyville Operations Excellence Specialist. Additionally, Interns will shadow operators on a regular basis. This internship program provides Process Technology students or recent graduates the opportunity to work in a controlled refinery environment, while learning about the Operator position at the refinery. The hands-on experience at the refinery, in addition Process Technology Program, should afford the student a solid foundation to confidently pursue a career as an Operator.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be a registered Community & Technical College student and enrolled in the 2-year Process Technology Program which leads to an Associate’s of Applied Science Degree or a recent graduate (one year) of the program.
  • Must have good class standing – no academic probation accepted.
  • Will be required to submit official college transcripts.
  • Must be available for day shifts and rotation into 12-hour shifts.
  • Employees must have the ability to climb over 75 feet, work in confined spaces, wear proper safety equipment, including a self-contained breathing apparatus as necessary, use hand tools, and work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Employees must have the ability to perform work at ground level and at heights on concrete, metal grating, gravel, asphalt and piping surfaces, while climbing, lifting 40 pounds plus, carrying 10-20 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 250 pounds with mechanical assistance.
  • Employees are subject to pre-employment and random drug and alcohol screenings.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and apply knowledge, technical skills, and interpersonal skills in the workplace under the direction of a Garyville Operations Excellence Specialist.
