About The Position

Process Safety Regional Manager - Decatur, IL We are seeking a Process Safety Regional Manager to lead and coordinate the overall process safety program for ADM’s Oilseeds sites in eastern North America, plus all Nutrition sites in North America. This role sits within the Total Process Safety (TPS) Technology Center, reporting to the TPS Global Director, working closely with peers supporting those two businesses, plant TPS Engineers, Regional EHS Directors, Plant Managers and Operations Directors, and has as primary responsibility to support and coach the assigneed sites in process safety. This role requires a solid technical background with good understanding of process safety including tools, methodologies and risk-based process safety programs, strong organizational skills, influential leadership and the ability to work with, coordinate and support activities across multiple facilities.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience and Qualifications: Minimum of 5 years of experience in Operations, Technology Center, Engineering or EHS
  • Working knowledge of process safety tools and methodologies such as HAZOP, LOPA, Dust Hazard Analysis, etc.
  • Experience as a facility Process Safety Engineer, Technology Engineer or Process Engineer.
  • Demonstrated influential leadership capabilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and team-building skills
  • Ability to explain complex processes to people in all types of roles, from upper management to technician level.
  • Demonstrated ability to defend difficult decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and support sites with the implementation and continuous improvement of their process safety program for the facilities in the region.
  • Provide coaching and/or mentoring to facility TPS Engineers / Contacts.
  • Lead, facilitate or participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) and/or Dust Hazard Analyses (DHAs) for facilities in the region.
  • Provide guidance and interpretation of corporate process safety standards and requirements.
  • Provide guidance and interpretation of local jurisdictional process safety requirements.
  • Monitor progress and support sites in closing action items resulting from audits, self-assessments, Process Hazard Analyses, Dust Hazard Analyses, Root Cause Investigations, etc.
  • Ensure cooperation across sites by leading and facilitating network meetings with the facility TPS Engineers / Contacts.
  • Deliver and/or coordinate process safety training for the region, eventually also by supporting for other regions.
  • Act as the Process Safety Subject Matter Expert (SME) Reviewer on Management of Change (MOC) requests for more complex or higher impact changes.
  • Be the global Element Owner for one or more elements of ADM’s risk-based TPS Process safety program, owning and continuously improving the standards, guidelines, training and best practices associated with that element.
  • Provide process safety expertise and support during a TPS incident, including potentially on-site Emergency Response support as needed and coordination of communications with the EHS and TPS COEs.
  • Lead, facilitate or participate in Root Cause Investigations (RCIs) in the region, depending on the severity of the event and/or complexity of the investigation.
  • Identify and escalate findings and action items which should be leveraged to other facilities with similar hazards.
  • Review and assess TPS incidents in the region to ensure proper classification and follow-up.
