About The Position

The Process Safety Manager is responsible for leading the development and sustainability of the global hazard mitigation program at Air Liquide Advanced Materials. This role focuses on eliminating unplanned events related to process upsets across new and existing operations, ensuring effective process safety management through collaboration with various departments. The manager oversees process safety specialists, driving efficiency and fostering growth within the team while demonstrating leadership and initiative in a dynamic environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science or advanced chemical engineering degree.
  • 10+ years experience in Process Safety methodologies and tools like Loss Prevention, LOPA, HAZOP, PHA, F&EI.
  • 8+ years experience with domestic and global regulations such as OSHA PSM, USEPA RMP, and KGS.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • Self-starter with the ability to perform well under pressure and changing priorities.
  • Ability to communicate concisely and effectively in written and verbal formats with stakeholders at multiple levels.
  • Ability to work and travel globally.

Nice To Haves

  • 8+ years' experience in operations.
  • Experience working with highly hazardous chemicals; toxic, flammable, pyrophoric.
  • Process engineering experience in the chemical industry.
  • Root cause investigation and analysis skills.
  • Deep knowledge of international fire and building codes.
  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification or equivalent knowledge.
  • Statistical Process Control, Statistical Quality Control experience.
  • Able to learn technical chemical processes quickly in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Experience working in dynamic environments of short time to market and high customer expectations.
  • Experience working in an empowered organization.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the development and sustainability of the global hazard mitigation program.
  • Eliminate unplanned events associated with process upsets on new molecules and processes.
  • Apply process safety management processes to achieve hazard mitigation success.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Operations, HSE, R&D, product development, and Product Management.
  • Manage process safety specialists to ensure efficient support and team growth.
  • Work with the stage gate process in new project development to ensure analyses are complete and requirements are met.
  • Form effective partnerships with other organizations to align on shared strategies and goals.
  • Lead the elaboration of the annual process risk management plan.
  • Conduct process risk assessments for projects and propose improvements to process safety.
  • Ensure selected risk reduction measures meet effectiveness criteria.
  • Implement the Annual Process Risk management plan and leverage improvements.
  • Make data-based decisions through methodical analysis.
  • Support MOC preparation and review MOCs as a subject matter expert.
  • Perform field reviews to confirm the efficiency of validated risk reduction measures.
  • Lead or participate in root cause analysis related to process safety risks.
  • Develop a process safety culture and system within ALAM.
  • Manage the overall program of PHA implementation and periodic reviews.
  • Review lessons learned related to process safety methodologies and tools.
  • Propose improvements to process safety methodologies and standards.
  • Manage team workload and assign Process Safety representatives to projects.
  • Develop specific process safety competencies within the team.
  • Support and coach specialists as needed.
  • Monitor the efficiency of process risk management processes.
