The Piping Designer III performs their job functions under the supervision of a project’s Engineer-of-Record. The Piping Designer III works on matters of intermediate complexity under the responsible charge of the registered Mechanical Engineer. This role is expected to work closely with other architects, engineers, and designers, as well as other internal and external team members to ensure a coordinated, constructible, and complete design. Other tasks include assisting with 3D modeling and design, conducting field investigations, performing a combination of independent design and red-to-black markup/review tasks, and producing discipline deliverables.

  • Interface with internal team, client, and external trade partners
  • Plan and execute work from the perspective of Piping Design
  • Involvement in early conceptual system planning, including point of use maps, general arrangements of utility rooms, selection of piping materials, and space allocation for piping racks
  • Support the development of detailed design deliverables, such as pipe routing planning, 3D modeling of piping and utility equipment, creation and annotation of piping plans, piping details
  • Learn CRB’s VDC standards and apply them to modeling and deliverables
  • Work on a variety of mechanical assignments supporting all phases of design including initial planning, feasibility, scope and concept development, detailed design, construction documentation, and construction administration
  • Work closely with architectural, engineering, and construction staff members to coordinate work and ensure assignments are completed accurately and efficiently
  • Perform a combination of independent design and assisted design (incorporating red-to-black markup and review tasks)
  • Travel as required for client development and project execution (less than 25%), including conducting field investigations and providing construction assistance
  • Applicable Associate degree, technical trade school certification, or demonstrated Architectural, Engineering, and/or Construction firm experience in the field of Piping Design required (Applicable Bachelor’s degree also is acceptable)
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience required, including field experience in either a design or construction capacity
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office required
  • Basic experience with mechanical standards and other industry standards required
  • Basic experience with developing and implementing key aspects of mechanical utility equipment and piping designs is required
  • Basic experience reading, developing, and redlining utility piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) is required
  • Basic proficiency in 3D modeling software such as Revit, Plant 3D, or CADWorx. Revit experience is preferred but not required
  • Basic experience with building codes preferred
  • Basic knowledge of cGMPs and/or experience with advanced technology industry projects such as R&D labs, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, food & beverage and/or consumer products is preferred
