About The Position

As the Process Modeling Engineer you will be a technical leader in process flow sheeting and digital modeling specifically focused on Chemical Reactor modeling. You will specialize in the development and deployment of Digital Twins for unit operations and entire process lines. You will support new product launches, process intensification, scale-ups, and technology transfers across global manufacturing sites. The engineer will use advanced modeling tools to improve process, reduce inefficiencies, and accelerate innovation. Due to the nature of this role, this position is available at either the PPG Springdale, PA, Allison Park, PA, or Pittsburgh, PA offices. Requirements

  • BA/BS in Chemical Engineering and 5+ years of experience in Process Modeling for Chemical Reactors. Alternatively, a MS in Chemical Engineering with 1+ year of hands-on experience with Chemical Reactor modeling for real-world applications is also acceptable.
  • Proficient in Process Flowsheeting modeling tools, such as Aspen Plus, Aspen Batch Processes and Hysys.
  • Experience developing process models for chemical manufacturing environments.
  • Experience communicating complex ideas to both technical and non-technical decision makers and team members.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of liquid polymer manufacturing which ideally would include paints/coatings or similar.
  • Familiarity with mixing models and their application in unit operation design.
  • Experience with statistical tools such as JMP to analyze data.
  • Basic skills in using commercial computational software packages i.e. Siemens Star-CCM+, M-Star CFD, COMSOL, ANSYS Fluent CFD, or similar and applicable coding skills.
  • Domestic Travel up to 25%

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable Digital Twin methodologies for unit operations (Chemical Reactors) and process lines that can be replicated across multiple manufacturing sites and product technologies.
  • Build and validate process line and unit operation models using Aspen Engineering Suite, ensuring accuracy and relevance to real-world operations.
  • Develop simplified and reduced order mixing models for unit operations and apply existing mixing models created by the team to support process design and optimization.
  • Collaborate with plant operations teams, engineering groups, and R&D to ensure alignment between modeling outputs and operational needs.
  • Analyze results, summarize findings, coordinate and communicate with manufacturing managers and site leadership to report progress, share insights, and align on priorities.
  • Prepare and deliver clear, data-driven reports and presentations to inform partners both technical and non-technical, including leadership, engineering, and operations.
  • Contribute to the development of standardized modeling methodologies and best practices for use across global sites and product platforms.
