About The Position

Hi, I’m Artemis, looking for a Summer 2026 Process Metallurgy Intern. Who Am I? I am a driven team leader of the Process metallurgy group who likes to use a boots on the ground and data driven approach to solving complex problems. What Do We Do? Business Unit: Process Metallurgy The Process Metallurgy team is responsible for all hot working operation at the reading plant. This includes the 4500 Ton Press, Rotary Forge, Hot rolling Mill, Hot Strip Mill, Hand Mills, Heat Treatment, Billet Conditioning, And Forged Bar Finishing. Ongoing Projects The Process Metallurgy Team takes a leadership role in problem solving all the top material quality related issues in all grades we produce. This gives a unique opportunity to apply many of the metallurgical principles taught in engineering classes in a real manufacturing environment. Your Role as an Intern You will be a part of a dynamic team, supporting the following tasks: This intern will be assigned projects focused on quality in both the Hot Rolling and Annealing areas. These projects will be centered around a data driven approach to material quality and process reliability. The process metallurgy team is responsible for maintaining and problem solving the processes that produce all of our alloys the company makes at the Reading Plant. Collaboration – You will work closely with multiple departments and teams on the manufacturing floor, requiring strong partnership skills.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program majoring in Materials Science or Metallurgical Engineering
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Willing and able to work on-site at our Reading, PA location.
  • Applicants MUST be US Citizens or Green Card Holders due to Carpenter’s government contracts.

Nice To Haves

  • Willing to learn, self-motivated, inquisitive, and willing to work in a manufacturing environment
  • Candidates should have proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and have some knowledge of statistics.
