The Process Engineer role at Scot Forge Company is a pivotal position that involves translating customer orders into actionable production routing and process documentation for the manufacturing of custom forgings. This role is essential in investigating alternative process plans that align with customer needs regarding quality, delivery, and manufacturing costs. The Process Engineer will engage in project management of the production process, ensuring that all aspects of manufacturing are executed efficiently and effectively. In this role, the Process Engineer will collaborate with various functions within the organization, employing problem-solving methodologies to enhance processes, reduce product costs, and eliminate quality issues. The position requires serving off shifts and other locations, including Clinton, WI, and Franklin Park, IL. The engineer will interpret industry standards, internal product databases, customer specifications, purchase orders, and blueprints to determine the most suitable production and inspection methods, as well as the appropriate raw material inputs. The responsibilities also include creating or modifying manufacturing plan documents, which encompass models, drawings, procedures, routings, work orders, and other instructions to ensure compliance and efficiency in producing forged products. The engineer must have a thorough understanding of manufacturing capabilities and ensure that drawings demonstrate proper tolerancing, including GD&T. Additionally, the role involves selecting heat treating processes and material grades to meet contractual and industry material properties, reviewing sales orders and quotes, and estimating costs as necessary. The Process Engineer will also be responsible for executing final quality reviews of manufacturing documents before they are released into production, as this role requires a high level of attention to detail and accountability. The engineer will work closely with manufacturing teams to ensure that plans are executable and compliant with customer specifications, and will engage in continuous improvement projects throughout the business.
