About The Position

The Process Engineer / Stock Prep Lead provides support throughout the Mill with an emphasis on Stock Prep and interfaces routinely with operations to optimize control systems to reduce cost, improve quality and minimize process variation.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Engineering (electrical, chemical, computer science or paper science preferred) OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • 5-7 years of experience in paper industry preferred. Will consider related manufacturing experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in pulp manufacturing operation, quality control or assurance (audit), or statistical process control
  • Proven experience in project management, project management skills
  • Strong MS Office skills including Work, Excel and Outlook
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively at all levels internally and externally
  • Strong business case development skills
  • Strong data analysis skills
  • Ability to demonstrate mill efficiencies and continues process improvement via key metrics. Responsible for safety, productivity, quality, efficiency, cost control, and compliance. This is a safety sensitive position. Employees are expected to be always alert and aware.

Responsibilities

  • Manages projects within budget and schedule constraints by interacting with Internal Team Members and Contractors.
  • Manages Design-Build Improvement Projects which will reduce costs or increase production.
  • Develops and implements Quality procedures for optimizing Production.
  • Performs product testing as needed to ensure products are meeting the objectives of customers and marketplace demand.
  • Performs data collection and analysis for production optimization and communicates production trends and benchmarks along with recommendations for improvement.
  • Maintains effective communications and working relationships with external and internal customers including but not limited to production, maintenance, IT, sales, engineering, purchasing, and suppliers.
  • Assists with providing responses to customers regarding sheet strength development and/or complaints.
  • Manages the dry end lab which includes, but is not limited to, testing equipment calibrations, implementing new testing equipment, managing strength verification with outside labs, and developing and maintaining the correlations between different test methods.
  • Manages effluent data and reports.
  • Manages mill process monitoring devices calibration.
  • Acts as a back-up production shift supervisor as needed; may include providing coverage on a night or weekend shift.
  • Performs daily rounds in the stock prep department working with the shift supervisors, operators, and maintenance to be sure systems are operating properly.
  • Work with vendors and other experts to improve stock prep throughput, OCC yield, and other equipment efficiencies.
  • Lead stock prep related capital projects.
  • Work with the maintenance team while developing the stock prep shutdown maintenance list.
  • Maintain the housekeeping in stock prep.
  • Support stock prep and paper machine shutdowns and start-ups.
  • Develop stock prep SOP’s and JSA’S.
  • Support the paper machine team during downtime situations.
  • Be available for on-call support.
  • Supports and fosters safety and environmental compliance.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by management.
