About The Position

The Process Engineer is a mid‑level, hands‑on role that supports production by developing, optimizing, and improving advanced laser‑optics manufacturing processes. The position uses data‑driven problem solving, structured project execution, and cross‑functional collaboration to enhance efficiency, quality, and scalability across the value stream. This role is primarily day shift, with occasional off‑hours support during critical production needs.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Process, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 3–5 years of experience in manufacturing process engineering
  • Experience with statistical process control or similar data‑driven methodologies
  • Strong initiative with the ability to seek out problems and work independently
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and customer specifications
  • Proficiency in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting statistical and process data
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Attention to detail and strong documentation habits
  • Familiarity with optical test equipment and safe practices around chemicals
  • Mechanical aptitude and comfort working hands-on with equipment and tooling
  • Ability to train and influence employees
  • Clear communication and strong cross‑functional collaboration skills
  • Comfort using data or scripting tools such as MATLAB, Python, Minitab, JMP, Power BI, or similar
  • Regular use of a computer and digital tools for analysis and documentation
  • Frequent sitting, bending, and reaching while using computers and test equipment
  • Hand–eye coordination required for equipment setup, testing, and handling fragile components
  • Operation of measuring and testing equipment requiring force to adjust knobs, cranks, and calibration mechanisms
  • Handling and positioning delicate optical parts for inspection and measurement
  • Repetitive wrist and forearm movements during testing
  • Neck bending for extended periods during inspection activities
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally, 20 lbs frequently, and 10 lbs continuously
  • Exposure to minimal solvent fumes (alcohol, acetone) during cleaning tasks
  • Strict adherence to all safety procedures and PPE requirements
  • Some positions within IDEX Corporation require access to controlled goods and technologies subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). Responsibilities

  • Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring processes, equipment, and daily practices meet safety standards
  • Monitor manufacturing processes, respond to in‑line production issues, and support root‑cause investigations
  • Use data analysis and statistical methods to identify trends and prioritize improvement opportunities
  • Break process‑development work into scoped projects; establish resources, timelines, and milestones
  • Communicate project status clearly to internal stakeholders
  • Lead process mapping and document standardized procedures across the value stream
  • Define critical process parameters and develop metrics to track capability and improvements
  • Recommend and implement process improvements based on data and observations on the manufacturing floor
  • Integrate new technologies and optimize existing processes for capability, quality, and throughput
  • Support new product setup, including BOMs, routings, process flows, and ERP documentation
  • Assist in designing or improving tooling, fixtures, and jigs to improve manufacturability
  • Review production data for accuracy and completeness; verify compliance with internal and customer requirements
  • Train employees on processes, lean principles, and updated procedures
  • Work cross‑functionally with production, engineering, quality, and planning to resolve issues and improve productivity
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
