About The Position

Elmet Technologies is actively seeking an experienced and dynamic, technically oriented engineer to provide processing expertise in key manufacturing areas. This position is accountable for effective production, continuous improvement, and new product development within designated manufacturing areas. The successful candidate will be able to communicate with all levels of the organization in addition to demonstrating a strong level of commitment and drive toward delivering consistent, high-quality, and timely results.

Requirements

  • BS Degree or equivalent experience in Materials, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Due to Department of Defense contract work must meet ITAR hiring requirements (US citizen, permanent resident or refugee/asylee).
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment required.
  • Must be a self-starter able to work with a minimum of supervision.
  • Strong planning and time management skills.
  • Solid project management skills. Must be detail oriented.
  • Sound analytical and problem-solving skills, with an emphasis on a “hands on” approach.
  • Strong and persistent drive to deliver positive results.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate on all levels, discern what others are conveying and work collaboratively.
  • Must be a US Citizen or otherwise authorized to work in the United States in compliance with ITAR requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure and experience with Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing methods and practices preferred.
  • Metal powder processing
  • Thermal mechanical processing of metals.
  • Material characterization experience

Responsibilities

  • Technical owner of all assigned process/manufacturing areas.
  • Ensure that process specifications, work instructions, equipment controls, and monitoring are in place, working and properly communicated.
  • Tracks, monitors, and audits product and process results to ensure desired material properties, quality levels, and workmanship are achieved.
  • Support R&D efforts in the development of robust operational processes for new products, materials, and alloys.
  • Support the planning and production management functions in optimal scheduling and usage of all key equipment.
  • Drive strategic planning and capital requirements to proactively identify and develop process capability and capacity to meet business growth objectives.
  • Assist with the layout, installation and integration of manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Apply continuous improvement methods such as lean manufacturing to enhance product quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Determine root causes of failures using statistical methods and recommend changes to processing methods.
  • Interact with Supply Chain Management, Finance, and Production departments in the purchasing requirements of raw materials along with assisting in decisions regarding rework/repair of damaged materials.
  • Lead or actively participate in APQP programs for new products, including the preparation of manufacturing methods and estimates, including tooling cost requirements and resources.
  • Monitor and improve safety in manufacturing operations by addressing ergonomic and other safety concerns.
  • Hands-on equipment trouble shooting and process improvements. Work with maintenance technicians to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues.
  • Create applicable, detailed work instructions and process documents that ensure safe and successful process execution.
  • Support the factory floor by providing technical expertise, how to information, and hands-on problem analysis/solutions to operators and technicians.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
