About The Position

The Process Engineer ensures high-quality and efficient production by developing and improving injection molding processes, supporting equipment setup and troubleshooting, and working with teams to meet safety, quality, and production goals.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Required.
  • Valid identification and the ability to legally work in the United States.
  • 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • 6 years of molding process in the plastic industry.
  • Basic computer experience with word processing, spreadsheet, and email software, preferably in Microsoft Suite.
  • Thorough knowledge of plastic resins, mold set-up and functions of an injection molding press is required; processing on injection molding machines; statistical process controls is preferred.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to write clearly and legibly reports and correspondence.
  • Technical mathematical computations (example: add, subtract, and divide in all unit of measure, using whole numbers and decimals, and statistical inference).
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Ability and willingness to problem solve.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and readily adapt to changes necessary to support the business.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees in the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Develop robust process utilizing scientific molding techniques, such as gate freeze analysis, short shot analysis, etc. as defined in the approved protocol.
  • Utilize and develop DOE to meet process goals.
  • Document findings of sample and submit report to Process Lead, Tooling Engineer, and Program Manager.
  • Supply engineering file with the following information: DOE, process sheet, water diagram.
  • Collaborate with quality group to verify product criteria.
  • Support production through starting up machines and problem-solving processes.
  • Share ideas on how the team or process can be improved.
  • Locates, safely transports, and stores the injection mold in accordance with established guidelines and procedure.
  • Installs and removes injection molds from assigned presses.
  • Set-up and prepare auxiliary/ secondary support equipment as required at the press.
  • Follows proper set-up/cycle sheets.
  • Documents process control for samples presses.
  • Verify documents are correctly filled out prior to set-up sign-off.
  • Takes shots of parts and visually checks them for defects, logging information into paperwork.
  • Operates forklifts and overhead cranes while conducting mold set-up when needed.
  • Maintains and promotes a safe and clean working environment.
  • Keep clean and organized throughout the shift, not just at the end of the shift.
  • Other tasks assigned by supervisor.
