The Senior Process Engineer will also assist process development, operations and technical groups in developing and implementing process improvements, troubleshooting production/quality issues, and transferring process/ troubleshooting knowledge to the organization. Provide technical support to sales, marketing, and customers as needed in troubleshooting existing products, enhancing existing products, and development of new products. Responsible for implementing and leading Continuous Improvement initiatives and facilitating world class operations management methodologies throughout the organization.

Requirements

  • Strong electrical and controls engineering aptitude, including PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, sensors, and industrial automation systems.
  • Ability to translate process requirements into effective control strategies that improve safety, quality, throughput, and waste reduction.
  • Strong mechanical and technical ability and aptitude
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong knowledge of processes used to manufacture flexible packaging
  • Strong knowledge of raw materials to define better solutions
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to coach and mentor less senior members of the organization
  • Must have effective communication skills, both verbal and written, in order to communicate with all levels of resources and managements, both internally and externally
  • Ability to analyze, problem solve and generate new ideas and be open minded to others’ ideas
  • Bachelors degree in an Engineering field
  • Five to seven years experience in an engineering or process role in a flexible packaging converting operation
  • Training and experience in Lean manufacturing methodologies

Responsibilities

  • Provide electrical controls and PLC programming support for manufacturing equipment, process improvements, and new product commercialization efforts.
  • Lead and support PLC-based troubleshooting for complex production, quality, and downtime issues in collaboration with Maintenance and Controls resources.
  • Support the design, modification, and optimization of control systems, including PLC logic, HMIs, sensors, drives, and automation hardware.
  • Partner with Engineering, Maintenance, and OEMs during equipment installations, upgrades, and commissioning, ensuring controls functionality meets process and safety requirements.
  • Support Environmental Health & Safety for the facility, following all current policies and procedures and making an effort to improve the Environmental Health and Safety performance of our facility.
  • Coordinate project orders with Production Planning to best fit production schedule with minimal impact to customer orders
  • Provide technical guidance to Maintenance operations to make improvements and resolve issues based on process knowledge
  • Leads change for Troubleshooting production and process problems; communicates with manufacturing, quality, and technical people regarding run problems; investigates root causes and recommends and helps implement corrective actions.
  • Reviews data and trial reports from technical for products being developed and reports concerns and results to the appropriate department managers.
  • Production Trial owner, following and coordination of production trials providing accurate and detailed feedback to Trial owners Manufacturing, Technical Manager and Marketing.
  • Analyze trial quality, output and waste data to determine trial effectiveness / specification commercialization.
  • Monitors and improves product quality.
  • Resolves quality issues and dispositions quarantined product.
  • Researches assignable causes of customer complaints and works closely with customers to resolve and prevent quality issues.
  • Regularly visits customers and coordinates operator visits to customers.
  • Writes, performs, analyzes, and reports on trails, scale-ups, and validations for the manufacturing processes.
  • Makes recommendations based on trails
  • Generate and gather ideas for product enhancements, cost savings, and new products from all sources (sales, vendors, customers, R&D, manufacturing, journals, and others); able to effectively communicate/interact with Sales, Marketing, and the Customer
  • Provide suggestions for product enhancements to R&D engineers to improve manufacturing results based on process experience
  • Operate as a “go-to” for other Engineers, operations, and maintenance for solutions to process or quality issues
  • Assess current processes to look for areas of improvement in processes (including procedures, conditions, and equipment), and make those recommendations to management
  • Target/resolve repetitive customer claim issues by working with customers and manufacturing
  • Lead continuous improvement teams to deliver process and business improvements.
  • Responsible for identifying and resolves issues that impact data aspects through root cause analysis and corrective action management as it relates to specification impacts to all operation resources & departments
  • Develop and Commercialize New and Improved Products
  • Develop specifications for new products and update existing specifications.
