About The Position

The position reports directly to the Clear Lake Technical Manager and provides technical assistance for Clear Lake Plant and Bayport 2EHA Unit operations. It requires direct interaction with other departmental managers and staff to exchange information and ideas related to the success of the plants and the Acrylics business unit. The position has no direct reports nor a designated backup in the organization.

Requirements

  • Graduate of the Arkema Developing Engineer program, or 2 to 3 years of equivalent industrial experience.
  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals and ability to apply them.
  • Ability to conduct experiments or data collection efficiently and apply statistical methods.
  • Possess a Six-Sigma Green Belt.
  • Ability to manage small projects and programs.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Understanding and application of safety and environmental regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Process Hazard Analyses.
  • Experience in root cause investigations and analysis of safety or environmental incidents.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and optimize site systems such as reaction, distillation, incineration, flares, utilities, tank farms, cooling towers, etc.
  • Lead high priority Variable Cost, Repetitive Production Expense or Operational Asset Utilization improvement projects across the site.
  • Train Operations personnel and other staff in technical issues and new projects.
  • Calculate and evaluate potential projects to improve raw material yields and utility usage.
  • Interpret process conditions.
  • Support full environmental compliance and optimal environmental performance.
  • Ensure compliance with all Safety & Health related regulatory requirements.
  • Maximize operational efficiency and product quality by identifying, evaluating, and proposing ideas for improvement.
  • Assist Operations during plant turnarounds, emergency operations, and provide technical assistance as required.
  • Develop skills required to support the Clear Lake Plant and Bayport 2EHA Unit through professional development.
