About The Position

The Process Engineer II is an experienced team member that leads and supports activities related to the development, improvement, and continual operation of Plug Power's products. The position is responsible for independently driving the execution of projects and contributing to the overall success of our engineering department, playing a key role in the development and refinement of manufacturing processes, material flow, and standard operating procedures. The PE II is expected to mentor junior engineers and serve as a subject matter expert within the Operations team.

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering or a STEM-related discipline
  • 3–6 years' experience in Engineering, preferably in a manufacturing or process environment
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to present to leadership
  • Uncompromising dedication to quality
  • Demonstrated analytical abilities with strong attention to detail and independent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering diagrams and process documentation

Nice To Haves

  • MS preferred
  • Experience with process simulation or CAD tools preferred
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems preferred
  • Lean or Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develop a deep understanding of Plug Power's projects including relevant codes & standards, hydrogen production technology, customer site requirements, troubleshooting history, design limitations, and optimal system performance targets
  • Lead the creation and ownership of manufacturing procedures to support the assembly, installations, and continual operation of products across multiple product lines
  • Lead data-driven analyses to improve manufacturing processes and material flow; present findings and actionable recommendations to engineering leadership and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Drive the evaluation and improvement of inspection processes and tooling designs through structured data analysis and closed-loop feedback, aiming for enhanced productivity and quality assurance
  • Lead the implementation of process improvement projects, Kaizen and training events using Lean-Sigma tools, including safety, ergonomics, 5S, Kanbans, statistical process control, standard work, and visual controls
  • Support capital investment justifications and project business cases through data analysis and ROI modeling
  • Develop, own, and continuously improve standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions to ensure consistent, repeatable manufacturing and service operations
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other junior staff
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with cross-functional colleagues including Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, and Product Engineering to align on priorities and deliver impactful solutions
  • Always represent Plug Power in a professional manner in all interactions
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
