Garmin International seeks Process Engineer 2 (Miramar, FL location; Multiple Positions). The role involves leading small projects, utilizing AutoCAD software, developing complex process instructions, estimating task efforts, and participating in continuous improvement initiatives. The engineer will collaborate in design reviews, assess factory associates for certification, and develop experiments for process improvements. Responsibilities also include analyzing data for quality trends, designing custom tooling, mentoring less experienced engineers, and applying Garmin's Mission Statement and Quality Policy.

  • May perform as a leader for small projects or sub projects as part of a greater project, following established procedures
  • Utilizes AutoCAD software skills to model complex tools
  • Develops more complex process instructions for manufacturing associates
  • Estimate level of effort for a task including calculating build times
  • Attends continuous improvement meetings and serves as a member of Kaizen teams
  • Collaborate and add value through participation in design reviews
  • Applies design for manufacturability guidelines to design reviews and provides alternative solutions as appropriate
  • Assesses factory associates for certification to a process
  • Develops designed experiments for process and quality improvements
  • Analyzes processes for quality improvements and provides justification for purchases as needed
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills in collaboration with vendors that produce custom parts or equipment
  • Analyzes data to determine quality trends, finds technical root causes and implement corrective actions for given problems
  • Design custom tooling as needed for specific applications
  • Provide reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques
  • Serve as a mentor to less experienced process engineers
  • Apply a sense of urgency, commitment and focus on the right priorities in developing solutions in a timely fashion
  • Develop, Plan or Apply expertise to develop and continuously improve production methods including layout, production flow, tooling and production equipment, material, fabrication, and assembly methods requirements
  • Create rework shop order work instructions and routings
  • Create, update and maintain work instructions, and implement Engineering Change Orders
  • Train manufacturing associates with the setup, operation and troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment
  • Apply statistical methods to analyze product or process performance
  • Design, construct and manage production tools, jigs, and fixtures in accordance with documented Engineering requirements and Lean principles such as Poka Yoke
  • Train production staff
  • Prepare recommendations for reorganization of work cells and job duties to increase efficiency and eliminate excess processing steps and labor costs
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or a related field
  • One (1) year of experience in the manufacturing environment
  • Leading small projects through introduction, analysis, ROI, implementation, and effectiveness verification with a focus on safety, quality, delivery, and cost
  • Developing and maintaining standard procedures and documentation such as work instructions, visual aid, rework instructions, change over checklist, and PPAP documentation including PFMEA, Control Plan, Run at Rate, labeling, and checking aids
  • Creating and maintaining documentation on ERP systems related to Bill of Materials, Routings, Serialization, and ECOs
  • Collaborating on NPI including participation in design reviews and applying manufacturability guidelines
  • Developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting processes for various materials and technologies
  • Performing problem solving analysis using tools such as A3, five whys, Pareto chart, FMEA, Value Stream Map, and fish bone
  • Analyzing and preparing recommendations to minimize waste
  • Defining methods to ensure process capability
  • Implementing and evaluating systems to track performance, OEE, productivity, and downtimes
  • Designing and redesigning production lines based on product specifications and budget
  • Conducting line balance, time studies, and PFD determinations
  • Eligible for Garmin's benefit program
