What you’ll do: Act as a process lead in the development of new processes and new product categories for the ophthalmic industry. Lead trials and activities for the coating process development and scale-ups. Act as a liaison between the new product development and the research and development team. As part of a diverse team, lead efforts for the development of new processes and devices with application in ophthalmic. Areas of work will include roll-to-roll coating (slot-die, gravure) and lamination, process and equipment troubleshooting. Work in lab as an individual contributor conducting experiments and/or as member of team of scientists, engineers and technicians. Supervise and direct technicians and junior engineers in the execution of experiments. Assemble data for technical review by peers and management. Contribute to preparation of project level updates to management, in partnership with project management team. Review current literature and patents to determine new possible paths of exploration. Collaborate with international team of researchers, project managers, and category management as part of new product development process.

Requirements

  • BS in a scientific or engineering technical field.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with coating processes and equipment.
  • Experience in transitioning products from development into production and ongoing support.
  • Experience in DOE methodology for process optimization.
  • Experience in analytical modeling, for example electro-optical, mechanical and/or thermal properties.
  • Preparation of presentations of technical topics.
  • MS Office proficiency.
  • Minitab or JMP proficiency.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% (national and international).

Nice To Haves

  • Preference to Mechanical engineering, Materials Science or Applied Physics background and relevant work experience in areas of materials science, optics, and coatings.
  • Basic understanding of the wet coating process and UV curing.
  • Experience in electrochromic, photochromic and polarized products.
  • Advanced skills in data analysis using Python or Matlab desired but not a requirement.
