About The Position

The Process Development Associate Scientist will lead process development projects for upstream and/or downstream manufacturing of viral vectors within the Gene Therapy Program at the University of Pennsylvania. This role involves independently conducting lab studies to develop and optimize manufacturing processes, supporting regulatory documentation, and mentoring junior staff. The position is critical in advancing innovative vector technology and contributing to the development of treatments for genetic diseases.

Requirements

  • MS Degree in Biochemical/Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biology, or related disciplines.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in biologics manufacturing.
  • Experience in mammalian cell culture, tangential flow filtration, and/or column chromatography.
  • Knowledge of process development concepts for biological manufacturing.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with upstream and downstream biologics manufacturing.
  • Experience in drafting regulatory documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead process development projects for upstream and/or downstream manufacturing of viral vectors.
  • Independently conduct lab studies to develop manufacturing processes.
  • Identify and define critical process parameters and critical attribute parameters.
  • Design and scale-out vector processes and support process characterization.
  • Draft documentation for regulatory purposes.
  • Lead process optimization studies as needed.
  • Develop and update process protocols/SOPs and batch records.
  • Direct the technology transfer of new or updated processes to the manufacturing group.
  • Train and mentor junior staff.
  • Work both independently and as part of a team to accomplish project goals.
