About The Position

The Process Controls Engineer III provides engineering support for controls engineering and commissioning projects at industrial facilities such as processing plants, gas compression facilities, mining facilities and other related types of projects. This position focuses on design and review of instrumentation and automation systems associated with heavy industrial plants. The Process Controls Engineer III carries out tasks outlined in the project’s completion procedure as defined in the Scope of Work. Executes completion activities at project sites, and verifies that documentation is completed. [Note: This role requires extensive travel—up to 80%—to remote domestic and international locations for on-site project assignments.]

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, or similar engineering field
  • Experience: 36 months of experience in working as a Process Controls Engineer or closely related occupation
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license (or be eligible to obtain one within 30 days of the date of hire)
  • Must have an acceptable driving record
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety
  • Demonstrated ability to: (a) Interpret P&ID’s; (b) Troubleshoot; (c) Write PLC/DCS logic and HMI/DCS configuration; (d) Identify defects and deficiencies with purpose of providing remediation (punch list management); and (e) Follow instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the function of the job under general supervision
  • Demonstrable skills and proficiency in: (a) Reading and understanding PFDs, P&IDs, Loop Diagrams, I/O Schematics, ISA Instrument Datasheets, Control Narratives, and Cause and Effects; and (b) Communication, including technical writing, daily reporting, and presentations, etc.
  • Demonstrably strong working knowledge of (a) Process control loops including valve, pump, and instrumentation characteristics (Flow, Pressure, Level, Density, Temperature, pH, and Analyzers); (b) Plant commissioning and start-up; (c) Mineral processing and oil and gas processes; (d) Material flow balances and energy balances; (e) Allen Bradley and/or Siemens and/or Modicon PLC’s; (f) DeltaV and/or Honeywell and/or ABB DCS; and (g) NEC, NFPA, PSM, MSHA, IEC 61131/61508, and ISA codes and standards
  • Demonstrably excellent ability to: (a) Maintain a professional demeanor, self-motivation, energy, and enthusiasm; (b) Comfortably express an independent opinion; (c) Exhibit resiliency to change; and (d) Recognize impact of their decision on others

Responsibilities

  • Design and review instrumentation and automation systems associated with heavy industry processing plants
  • Engineer and design network diagrams, loop diagrams, P&ID control depictions, Controls Narrative, and Cause and Effect
  • Design process control systems and strategies
  • Design and implement process network infrastructure
  • Program and configure PLC/HMI/DCS/SCADA systems
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process controls
  • Hands on support for commissioning/start-up activities
  • Such other related duties and responsibilities as assigned
