As a Process Control Engineering Intern at Cleveland-Cliffs, the projects assigned will vary based on the intern's education level and plant location, but will generally reflect the duties outlined below.

Requirements

  • Enrollment in Bachelor of Science program in the field of Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other related technical degree
  • Completion of sophomore year of study by the summer of 2026
  • Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis

Responsibilities

  • Software development in a variety of programming languages and on a variety of hardware platforms
  • Maintenance of computer hardware and software
  • Maintenance and problem solving of all aspects of the automation system
  • Modifications to the automation system to adapt to new products and processes
  • Address issues that may impact production or system reliability
  • Process modeling for mill processes of a chemical, metallurgical and mechanical nature
  • Administration of a variety of Operating Systems and relational databases on workstations and servers
  • Work with complex measurement systems, such as vision systems for product quality, thermal imaging temperature measurements, RFID and barcode tag reading for product identification, X-ray, nuclear gauges, and other gauging systems
  • Work with networking technologies, high-speed data transmission, and specialty interfaces
  • Close coordination with a production department
  • Respond to routine and emergency requests
  • Manage local area project, task, and priority lists
  • Make recommendations for system and process improvements
  • Work with vendors on products and performance issues
  • Coordinating with Research and Development and other staff departments
