About The Position

Cleveland-Cliffs Steel has an immediate opportunity for Process Control Engineer at our Burns Harbor, Indiana operation. The Process Control Engineer is part of the Maintenance, Environmental, and Utilities Division and is responsible for working directly with a large variety of computer and automation control systems responsible for steel processing models, mill event tracking, environmental compliance, quality, and production data collection and reporting. Requirements

  • 3-5 years of engineering experience in an industrial environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other engineering discipline relevant to a steel manufacturing facility.
  • Knowledge of and experience with modern programming languages and relational databases.
  • Basic understanding of computer networking and routing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of advanced control theory and the ability to create, modify, and troubleshoot complex logic.
  • Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Responsibilities

  • Directly work with and provide hands-on support to operations and maintenance groups in a fast-paced production industrial environment.
  • Maintenance and problem-solving of all aspects of a large variety of computers, instrumentation, and related mill control and process automation systems.
  • Modifications to existing automation systems to implement new ideas for continuous improvement to the manufacturing process.
  • Development, implementation, and maintenance of models for mill processes of a metallurgical, mechanical or chemical nature.
  • Addressing issues that may impact production or system reliability.
  • Assignments on new installation or modernization projects with participation in activities such as planning, engineering design, hardware configuration, software design, development and testing, and new system start-up.
  • Being well-informed of quality and reliability issues in the production environment.
  • Real-time control and monitoring of steel mill processes including maintenance of hardware and software, design and installation of new control systems and modernization of existing systems.
  • Administering operating systems and databases.
  • Working with networking technologies, high-speed data transmission, and specialty interfaces.
  • Staying current with technology advancements in industrial controls.
  • Various other duties as needed to support the business.
