U. S. Steel has an immediate opening for a Process Control Engineer within the Process Control organization. This position will be responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and enhancing process control hardware and software solutions in a heavy industrial environment. This role is onsite at our Mt. Iron, Minnesota location.

  • Support production Distributed Control System (DCS) hardware and software applications, graphical HMI applications, and LAN communications.
  • Ensuring the plant's process control equipment is installed, upgraded, and maintained in the safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
  • Analyzing iron ore manufacturing processes and applying appropriate technology solutions.
  • Supporting the critical production systems in a timely fashion, troubleshooting problems and maximize operating efficiencies with minimal interruption.
  • 24/7 off-hours support including weekends and evenings as required.
  • Coordinating both the design and development efforts utilizing project management skills.
  • Working with systems that monitor the environmental compliance of iron ore production.
  • Applicants with a minimum of an Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, Computer Science, or Equivalent Work Experience will be considered.
  • Experience in at least one of the following computer languages: Fortran, C, or .NET
  • Experience with automated systems design, configuration, implementation including analog, digital control logic and graphic development, tuning, optimization, hardware maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting.
  • Work within a team environment that promotes respect, and collaboration through two-way communication, encouraging new ideas and different perspectives that drive individual, team, and company success.
  • Electrical engineering knowledge, networking VMS and Windows based operating systems.
  • The ability to comprehend electrical drawings and schematics are desired skills as is the ability to use electrical and communications test equipment.
  • This is a safety sensitive position requiring drug and alcohol testing.
