About you and this role: Dow has an opening for a Senior Process Automation Engineer for the SR-1 Ethylene Cracker, located at the Sabine River Operations site in Orange, Texas . The Senior Process Automation Engineer applies technical knowledge by providing automation solutions for the chemical process equipment involved, work process, unit operations, operating condition or process technology improvements. At this experience level, supports intermediate projects, or portions of the process automation design within larger capital projects. Requires conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures within a job discipline.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • A minimum of 1 year of manufacturing or programming experience
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

  • Project Management: Project management is the process of leading the work of a team to achieve goals and meet success criteria at a specified time. The primary challenge of project management is to achieve all of the project goals within the given constraints. The secondary challenge is to optimize the allocation of necessary inputs and apply them to meet pre-defined objectives.

  • Organizing, Planning, and Prioritizing Work: Organizing, Planning, and Prioritizing Work is the process of organizing work, setting priorities, determining resource requirements, and implementing strategic plans on a daily basis while recognizing the interdependencies of activities and resources.
  • Process Safety: Process safety focuses on preventing fires, explosions and accidental chemical releases in chemical process facilities or other facilities dealing with hazardous materials such as refineries, and oil and gas production installations.

Responsibilities

  • Applies Global Project Methodology (GPM) and Process Automation Work Process Discipline.
  • Ensures that the project scope is well defined and meets the business needs in a cost-effective manner.
  • Ensures that the process automation is safe, meets DOW LPP’s and other EH&S requirements.
  • Drives project execution within their discipline.
  • Provides input to project schedule and plans, then monitors progress against the plans.
  • Ensures discipline design deliverables for their discipline meet the needs of the project: functions as intended, on time and within budget.
  • Identifies technical problems and appropriately engages the business technology center and SME network to resolve.
  • Programs control applications for various distributed control systems.
  • Writes simulation applications in order to verify functionality of the control program and for training plant operators.
  • Participates in project commissioning and startup activities, including tuning of control loops and training of Operations.
  • Develops knowledge and skills in all aspects of Process Automation.
  • Obtains basic knowledge of unit operations and Chemical Engineering fundamentals.
  • Drives or Supports Alarm Management, DCS migration, Hazard assessments (LOPA, PHA), etc programs.
  • Supports unit troubleshooting, startup/shutdown, and Turnarounds.
