Process Architect

General MotorsWarren, MI
4dHybrid

About The Position

This role is categorized as hybrid, meaning the selected candidate will be expected to work on‑site at the Warren Tech Center at least three days per week (or other frequency determined by their manager). This role is not eligible for relocation assistance About the role: Are you energized by designing how work gets done, turning complexity into clear, measurable processes, and connecting people, tools, and data into a seamless value stream? Do you like using AI, software, and automation to rethink how we develop vehicles and make other people’s jobs easier? The Process Architect role may be the fit you’re looking for. In this role, the Process Architect will be part of the GVHE efforts within Engineering Execution – Performance Intelligence, partnering across engineering, operations, analytics, GEOS, and IT to define, improve, and govern the ways of working that power vehicle development. The ideal candidate is a structured thinker and strong collaborator who can connect dots across domains and translate complex concepts into clear, simple statements for any audience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in engineering roles within product development (e.g., release, validation, systems, manufacturing, quality, or similar)
  • Proven ability to connect process and data, including value stream mapping, KPI design, and data-driven problem solving.
  • Strong communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate between technical, operations, and business audiences and present recommendations to various levels of leadership.
  • Experience leading cross-functional workshops, gaining consensus, and driving initiatives from concept through implementation.
  • Consistent demonstration of GM Behaviors, including integrity, collaboration, resilience, accountability, and continuous learning.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to AI, automation, or advanced analytics, with curiosity about how these capabilities can simplify engineering workflows (e.g., assistants, recommendations, smart dashboards).
  • Exposure to software development practices, such as requirements definition, backlog refinement, testing, and the ability to collaborate effectively with software and IT teams.
  • Experience working across the end-to-end product development lifecycle, from early concept through launch and field performance (e.g., collaboration with design, VDDV/CAE, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and program management).
  • Familiarity with process modeling tools, workflow solutions, and analytics/BI tools (e.g., Power BI) to link process and metrics.
  • Demonstrated ability to challenge the status quo and rethink how work is done – with a track record of simplifying processes, reducing friction, and making others’ lives easier through better process, tooling, or data.

Responsibilities

  • Elicit and document current-state process flows.
  • Define and maintain RACIs, role responsibilities, and minimum viable data for each step.
  • Lead domain value stream mapping (VSM) workshops to identify waste, bottlenecks, and failure modes while quantifying benefits and risks for proposed changes.
  • Serve as the engineering-side process owner for domain process and tool changes.
  • Write and communicate clear requirements and user stories for process and tool improvements, partnering closely with GEOS and IT/software teams.
  • Ensure changes are grounded in real user pain points and result in simpler, more intuitive ways of working for engineers and leaders.
  • Explore and frame AI/automation opportunities that reduce manual work and make others’ lives easier.
  • Help translate engineering needs into feasible, incremental software/AI solutions.
