This position reports to the Quality Assurance Manager, The Process and Product Metallurgist provides technical coordination and support for the Melt Shop and/or Rolling Mill to advance the development and refinement of operating procedures to ensure quality standards. Responsible for providing support in the coordination and evaluation of customer requirements and product specifications in accordance with the capacities and capabilities of the production departments. The Process and Product Metallurgist will, for the most part, be self directed. The Process and Product Metallurgist is primarily responsible for the identification, evaluation, and implementation of product enhancement opportunities. These actions involve the planning, supervision, evaluation and reporting of product trials, and on-site material review at customers' plants. The Process and Product Metallurgist has a dotted line reporting relationship to the Manager Technical Services.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical coordination and support for the Melt Shop and/or Rolling Mill.
- Advance the development and refinement of operating procedures to ensure quality standards.
- Support the coordination and evaluation of customer requirements and product specifications.
- Identify, evaluate, and implement product enhancement opportunities.
- Plan, supervise, evaluate, and report on product trials.
- Conduct on-site material reviews at customers' plants.
Requirements
- Possess a working knowledge of steelmaking production.
- Hold a four-year degree from an accredited institution in an Engineering discipline.
- Have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a steelmaking environment, preferably with quality control or metallurgy.
- Strong knowledge of metallurgy and understanding of steel manufacturing techniques.
- Ability to independently apply metallurgical fundamentals to continuous improvement efforts.
