About The Position

The Procedural Technician supports physicians and clinical staff in performing minor surgical and invasive procedures within the clinic setting. This role shares responsibility for ensuring procedures are conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety, maintain infection prevention standards, and promote efficient clinical workflow. The Procedural Technician prepares patients and procedure rooms, maintains sterile technique, and assists with procedural setup, intra-procedure support, and post-procedure tasks. The technician interacts directly with patients to help keep them calm, informed, and comfortable before, during, and after procedures. In addition, the Procedural Technician may be responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing instruments and tools before and after procedures in accordance with established protocols. This role is expected to complete additional clinical and operational duties as assigned throughout the day, at the direction of the physician or practice leadership, to support overall clinic operations. Unlike hospital-based surgical technician roles, this position is clinic-based and does not include operating room duties or on-call responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Completion of an accredited allied health program is required.
  • Medical Assistant certification or Certified Nursing Assistant in the state of Virginia is required.
  • BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart ‘Healthcare Provider’ (HCP) - AHA approved required. New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation.
  • Knowledge of sterile technique and infection control practices; medical and surgical instrumentation; and patient preparation, positioning, and safety protocols.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced procedural or surgical environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.
