Responsibilities onsemi, based in East Fishkill, New York, is seeking a motivated engineering student to join the Wafer Probe Test Engineering group as a summer intern. At onsemi, we build advanced power semiconductors that help drive industry forward. Our team supports the electrical testing of MOSFET and IGBT devices at wafer level, ensuring accurate data collection and strong performance in a high‑volume manufacturing environment. As a Test Engineering intern, you will gain hands-on experience with automated semiconductor electrical testers while working alongside experienced Test Engineers and Technicians. This role blends elements of both process and equipment support. You will participate in real-world engineering work such as failure debugging, data analysis, preventative maintenance, and hands-on lab work. This internship is well‑suited for a curious, detail‑oriented problem‑solver who wants exposure to semiconductor technology and manufacturing test operations. It offers an opportunity to broaden your technical skills, contribute to meaningful project work, and learn how production test and probing help ensure device quality and reliability in a fast‑paced environment.

Requirements

  • Pursing a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related field
  • Coursework or basic knowledge in electronics, semiconductor device fundamentals, and circuit analysis
  • Comfortable working hands-on with common lab equipment like oscilloscopes and multimeters
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to follow procedures with discipline (but also know when to change the procedure!)
  • Ability to work safely in cleanroom and lab environments
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with programming concepts, particularly C++ and Python
  • Ability with basic data analysis tools, like Excel, JMP, MATLAB, or Python
  • Exposure to semiconductor parametric/functional test and characterization
  • Basic understanding of test automation

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing, debugging, and validating wafer-level electrical test programs
  • Support investigations into yield loss by running experiments, collecting data, and analyzing complex information
  • Qualify and characterize new tools, hardware, tests, and equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance on probe test equipment
  • Identify production risks before they propagate, tracking down solutions with rigor
  • Work with onsemi teams around the world on projects
