About The Position

The Probation Officer position in Region 2 Skowhegan is responsible for supervising and managing clients assigned to the Maine Department of Corrections (MDOC) or released to the community. This role emphasizes the importance of rehabilitation and restorative justice practices, aiming to equip justice-involved individuals with the necessary skills for successful reintegration into society. The officer will work as part of a team, requiring strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage various administrative tasks while ensuring public safety.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Behavior Sciences, or Social Sciences, or a closely related field (4 years)
• Six (6) months experience in probation/parole work, counseling or case management, or law enforcement activities
• In lieu of a Bachelor's Degree, at least 4 years and 6 months of equivalent combination of directly related education, experience, and training
• Possession of a Class C Maine Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and manage clients assigned to MDOC or released to the community
• Assess clients' risks and needs
• Counsel and supervise clients while on probation or other forms of community release
• Prepare pardon and pre-sentence investigation reports for the court
• Perform interstate compact duties and participate in the formulation and oversight of community reentry release plans
• Gather and enter data into a computer tracking system and provide various reports from this information.
