About The Position

The Probation Officer I position involves providing day-to-day supervision and case management services to a specialized caseload of adult probationers and parolees identified as confirmed gang members and/or assessed to have high criminogenic risks and/or treatment needs. The officer will serve as Supervisor/Team Lead of the Gang Team, providing guidance and advice to assigned staff members regarding case assignments, case reviews, workload distribution, and business needs. The role actively applies Evidence-Based practices, including effective communication skills, principles, and techniques to promote internal change within the probationer or parolee while resolving complex case management issues. Responsibilities include conducting home and community contacts, preparing Pre-Sentence Investigations, sentencing guidelines, and other reports, and testifying in court to provide sentencing recommendations.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of the criminal justice system.
  • Experience with case management and counseling techniques, including Motivational Interviewing.
  • Demonstrated ability to write reports and communicate effectively.
  • Capable of independent judgment and action.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of probationers and community organizations.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience preparing written reports and presenting them to official audiences.
  • Experience conducting interviews to gather information.
  • Experience working directly with adult supervisees in program management and reentry planning.
  • Experience facilitating offender treatment groups.
  • Recent experience in a probation and parole district office.
