About The Position

Anoka County Community Corrections is committed to its mission of Working to Build a Safer Community. We have an immediate opening for a Probation Officer, a role that supports meaningful behavior change while maintaining the safety and security of our correctional facilities. The Probation Officer provides supervision, support, and accountability for individuals involved in the justice system. This includes delivering care and correctional guidance, monitoring compliance, and ensuring the safety, security, and well‑being of residents within Anoka County’s correctional facilities. The role is essential in promoting positive change, reducing risk, and helping individuals successfully navigate their path forward This is a full-time, non-exempt, on-site position. Interviews will begin the week of March 9th, 2026, for those selected to move forward in the hiring process.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor's degree and at least two years (2,080 annual hours) of job-related experience. In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older by date of hire.
  • Successfully pass driver’s license background check.
  • Must have valid driver's license and vehicle available for business use.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in corrections, criminal justice, criminology, counseling, psychology, social work, sociology, or closely related field.
  • Three or more years (2,080 annual hours) of job-related experience in one or more of the following settings: Law Enforcement, Corrections, Probation, group home, or school programs.
  • Knowledge of Federal Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA).
  • Skill in motivational interviewing techniques, effective behavior modification, and de-escalation strategies.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based correctional practices.
  • Able to restrain residents by use of force and mechanical restraints.

Responsibilities

  • Develop treatment or case plans, use motivational interviewing to promote positive behavior change, assess offender’s readiness for change, and engage offenders in change process.
  • Assist with relapse prevention, facilitate groups, coordinate programs, and develop offenders’ post-custody release plans.
  • Collaborate with providers including school personnel, treatment providers, social services, law enforcement agencies, employers, and families regarding offender/client educational needs, treatment plans and progress, and behavior and progress.
  • Respond to emergency situations and calls for assistance in the workplace and intervene with appropriate level of force.
  • Apply knowledge of the criminal justice system and processes, chemical health policies and laws, state and federal laws related to correctional facilities, de-escalation strategies, and evidence-based correctional practices.
  • Supervise residents in all facets of juvenile institutional programming, communicate information to other personnel to enforce rules, regulations, policies, and ensure the safety and security of residents and staff.
  • Provide program supervision and facilitate treatment modalities on an individual or group basis.
  • Conduct security checks of buildings and grounds; search residents, living quarters, and work areas for contraband.
  • Comply with the disciplinary practices of the institution in reporting rule violations and applying sanctions.
