About The Position

The Anoka County Community Corrections department is seeking a temporary Probation Officer Assistant. This role is crucial in supporting Probation Officers and the Juvenile Diversion team. Key responsibilities include conducting diversion hearings, assisting with case management, and overseeing the Level Five Surveillance Program, which involves monitoring youth in the community to ensure compliance with approved schedules. This is a temporary, non-exempt, on-site position with an expected duration of up to six months, focused on building a safer community through innovative, research-based, and results-driven services.

Requirements

  • Requires a high school diploma (or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis).
  • Must be 21 years of age or older by date of hire.
  • Successfully pass driver’s license background check.
  • Must have valid driver's license and vehicle available for business use.
  • Successfully passing a pre-employment criminal/driving background check, drug screen and DOT physical, and/or other qualifications checks may be necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree, or currently pursuing post‑secondary studies in Corrections, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, or a related area.
  • One year (2,080 annual hours) or more of job-related experience in a Correctional setting.
  • Job-related experience with interviewing clients and preparing court reports.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate documentation of case activity utilizing department and offender data systems and computer hardware.
  • Complete Client and Consequence Review reports.
  • Enter and maintain accurate client and case information in a Court Services Tracking System (CSTS).
  • Focus on pro-social skill development and the effective use of rewards and sanctions using individual counseling approaches, and facilitation of diverse programming.
  • Work collaboratively with a team to ensure all required services and tasks are completed in a timely manner.
  • Perform case review and take appropriate action according to policies and guidelines.
  • Provide monitoring assistance for case conditions, prepare reports, interview clients, conduct community client contacts, and other supportive tasks for Diversion and field services.
  • Conduct a Diversion Hearing with youth and parent and/or guardians.
  • Complete Diversion Reports, data sheets, contracts and Discharge Reports.
  • Support Probation Officers.
  • Work with the Juvenile Diversion team, conducting diversion hearings and assisting with case management.
  • Oversee the Level Five Surveillance Program, monitoring youth in the community to ensure compliance with approved schedules.
