The Probation Counselor II position at Fairfax County Government involves overseeing and directing the daily actions of residents placed in the Post Dispositional Program by the Juvenile and Domestic Relations General District Court (JDRDC). The counselor is responsible for ensuring the physical, psychological, and emotional well-being of up to 11 residents who may have complex and multiple adjustment difficulties. This role includes serving as a case manager for up to two residents, providing individual and group counseling, and addressing behavioral issues as identified in each resident's treatment plan. The counselor will facilitate daily group counseling sessions, administer first aid, and manage the disbursement of medication as prescribed by a physician. In addition to counseling, the Probation Counselor II will design and implement treatment plans that address the behavioral, substance abuse, and educational needs of residents both inside and outside the program. Regular communication with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders is essential to discuss the status of the residents. The counselor will maintain detailed logs of intake and release statistics, medication administration, and behavioral observations, ensuring that all paperwork is completed accurately and submitted within required time limits. The position also involves managing facility operations during assigned shifts, which includes addressing building safety, maintenance, and security issues. The counselor will conduct intake interviews, supervise offenders through office and home visits, and formulate treatment or rehabilitation plans. They will also supervise community service requirements, monitor compliance with court orders, and provide intensive supervision and counseling to juvenile and adult offenders. The role requires a commitment to maintaining effective working relationships with various stakeholders, including law enforcement and social service agencies, to coordinate evaluations and referrals as needed.
