About The Position

State Of Vermont Probation & Parole Officers must be conscientious, self-motivated individuals with the ability to think on their feet in a fast-paced environment. You'll have a strong understanding of ethics and boundaries as well as the ability to communicate and work in a team setting.

Be detail oriented Understanding of victim awareness, risk intervention strategies, and case planning practices, plus the ability to maintain a professional rapport with local law-enforcement agencies and community partners is a must. Prior Corrections, law-enforcement, or military experience is preferred for the position of Probation and Parole Officer II at the Burlington Probation and Parole Office. The work will be performed in an office setting with field work required. The hours are 7:45-4:30, Monday-Friday. Some after hours, some weekends, and field work may occur.

• High school diploma or equivalent or higher AND three (3) years or more experience in human services casework such as mental health/addiction counseling, work in a residential treatment center, juvenile justice, direct service legal work, emergency services, corrections, law enforcement, military or similar job duties
• Possession of a valid driver's license is required, and a criminal background check will be performed prior to hire. Certain convictions can be disqualifying.
• Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position.
• In accordance with federal regulation, any person applying for employment in the Department of Corrections must provide relevant information.
• Candidates who have any felony conviction record or who, within the past five (5) years, have been placed under supervision or sanctioned for a misdemeanor conviction must receive a waiver from the Commissioner of Corrections in order to be considered for employment.
