About The Position

The Probation and Parole Officer 1, 2, or 3 - Adult position is responsible for supervising and investigating adult criminal offenders through the provision of probation, parole, and pardon services. This role involves working closely with offenders to ensure compliance with supervision conditions, conducting background investigations, and providing necessary support and resources to aid in their rehabilitation. The position may be filled at different levels based on the candidate's experience, and it may involve a trial detail prior to permanent promotion.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree or six years of full-time work experience in any field as a substitute for the degree.
  • Possession of a valid Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment.
  • Willingness and ability to handle and carry firearms.
  • Willingness and ability to complete Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) academy and attain POST certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in criminal justice or social work.
  • Knowledge of community resources for offender rehabilitation.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise felons and misdemeanants through counseling and referrals to community resources.
  • Enforce conditions of supervision and perform all aspects of the violation process under close supervision.
  • Conduct criminal justice social background investigations of offenders and make recommendations for decision makers in the criminal justice system.
  • Conduct arrests, transport violators, prepare reports to courts and parole board, and attend probable cause and revocation hearings.
  • Investigate and determine amounts of victims' restitution, set payment schedules, and collect and disburse restitution and supervision fees.
  • Place offenders in appropriate drug treatment, vocational rehabilitation, or mental health programs; assist them in obtaining emergency financial aid and support.
  • Administer drug tests by obtaining urine samples and evaluating results.
  • Conduct disciplinary hearings for adult inmates in Community Rehabilitation Centers (CRCs).
