About The Position

The Probation and Parole Assistant position within the Missouri Department of Corrections is a vital role focused on supervising offenders in various activities and ensuring their compliance with facility rules. This position aims to support the rehabilitation of individuals in the criminal justice system, helping them reintegrate into society as productive members. The role involves a combination of monitoring, reporting, and assisting offenders in their daily activities, while also maintaining safety and security within the facility.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Valid vehicle operator's license is required.
  • Ability to pass a background investigation administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of safety training including firearms, defensive tactics, CPR, and First Aid.
  • Successful completion of training in the Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System (MULES).

Responsibilities

  • Supervises offenders in housing units and various activities including educational and recreational programs.
  • Checks and counts offenders; inspects housing units for safety and security violations.
  • Interviews offenders to gather information regarding their backgrounds and prepares reports.
  • Retrieves information from various law enforcement databases and responds to active warrants.
  • Photographs and issues identification cards to offenders; assists with job search activities.
  • Maintains databases and logs, and assists Probation and Parole Officers with court hearings and home visits.
  • Supervises the movement of offenders and intervenes in emergency situations as needed.
  • Discusses minor adjustment problems with offenders and promotes rehabilitation efforts.
  • Provides after-hours assistance to departmental staff and the general public.
