General Definition: This is probation work at the entry level providing assistance to Probation Officers. An employee in this class carries our five major duties: Community Alternative Work Service (CAWS), Monitoring, Program Development and/or Management, Information Gathering, and Data Entry. An employee in this class reports directly to a supervisory probation officer. Although the Probation Aide may assist the probation officer in various functions, these functions typically carry less responsibility. Typical Examples of Work: Worksite Visitation:The Probation Aide will be expected to check on juveniles at their worksites and make note of their progress. If the juvenile is not in attendance, the probation aide will follow this up with the appropriate phone calls. School Suspension Program:The Probation Aide will coordinate or assist with this program. The Probation Aide can also be expected to transport juveniles to their worksites and keep daily records. Staffing Recycling Center: The Probation Aide can assure that the Recycling Center is fully staffed with juveniles. The Probation Aide may also be responsible for coordinating any referrals from the Adult Probation Department. Restitution Accounts: The Probation Aide can check on the accuracy of restitution accounts before payments are authorized to victims. CAWS III Placements: The Probation Aide can contact placements in which juveniles are performing their CAWS III hours to check on their progress. Weight Slips: The Probation Aide can collect weight slips from businesses where our recyclables are marketed. Statistics: The Probation Aide can help compile statistics, especially recidivism statistics. Phone Messages: The Probation Aide can return phone messages received by the CAWS Director. Aluminum Collection Sites: The Probation Aide will solicit and recruit new sites to be utilized for the collection of aluminum cans. Data Entry: The Probation Aide can assist in data entry of the CAWS Program.
