About The Position

The Research Assistant/Research Associate position is part of the Archaeological Research Division, also known as the Oregon State Museum of Anthropology (OSMA) at MNCH. OSMA was created in 1935 by the State Legislature and has been at the forefront of innovative archaeological research in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest ever since. The position's primary task is to conduct Cultural Resource Management (CRM) investigations, collect field data, contribute to sponsoring deliverables including technical reports, and document cultural resources with appropriate Oregon State Historic Preservation Office forms.

Requirements

  • RESEARCH ASSISTANT: Bachelor's degree in archaeology, anthropology, history, historic preservation, or a closely related field.
  • RESEARCH ASSISTANT: One year of experience in Cultural Resource Management or similar work.
  • RESEARCH ASSOCIATE: Terminal degree (Master's degree or PhD, depending on field) in archaeology, anthropology, history, historic preservation, or a closely related field.
  • RESEARCH ASSOCIATE: Three years of experience in Cultural Resources Management or similar work.
  • RESEARCH ASSOCIATE: Meet the Secretary of the Interior's professional qualifications standards in archaeology or historic preservation and any applicable state qualifications.
  • Proficient writing skills.
  • Familiarity with criterion considerations of National Register eligibility.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships and work effectively with colleagues, faculty, staff, and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds.
