The University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication (SOJC) seeks applicants for its Instructors and Professor of Practice positions for our open instruction pool. The pool is for part-time, temporary, limited-duration teaching appointments, with the possibility of renewal for up to three years. Potential courses may include undergraduate classes in multimedia, reporting, advertising, broadcast, online journalism, public relations, photojournalism, design, media studies context courses, and other related subjects in the SOJC portfolio. Successful candidates will have professional experience related to a field in the School of Journalism and Communication, demonstrated ability of quality teaching, and a commitment to working effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds. Screening of applications will take place as positions become available and will continue until positions are filled. Some courses may have the option to be remote/hybrid depending on programmatic needs and field of study. If hired at the rank of pro tem professor of practice, you will also serve as a liaison between your professional field and the University of Oregon.

  • Teach undergraduate classes in multimedia, reporting, advertising, broadcast, online journalism, public relations, photojournalism, design, and media studies.
  • Develop and deliver course content effectively.
  • Serve as a liaison between the professional field and the University of Oregon if hired as a Professor of Practice.
  • Work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
  • Master's degree for Instructor position (or significant professional experience may substitute).
  • Substantial experience equal to a tenured professor for Professor of Practice (normally a minimum of 12 years).
  • National/international reputation for excellence in the field.
  • Profile of accumulated professional accomplishments.
  • Rich and extensive background in the field.
  • Record of excellence in establishing and maintaining partnerships with professional stakeholders.
  • Substantial professional experience in the subject to be taught.
  • Experience teaching in a classroom setting or creating and delivering training programs.
