The ProFee Coder at St. Luke's University Health Network is responsible for accurately assigning codes to professional fee services in both outpatient and inpatient settings. This role plays a crucial part in the revenue cycle process by ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and maintaining high accuracy in coding practices. The position requires collaboration with healthcare providers to resolve documentation deficiencies and educate them on clinical documentation requirements.

  • Abstract and assign appropriate ICD10, HCPCS/CPT codes for all diagnosis and procedure professional fee services performed in outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines related to physician services for various hospital services.
  • Maintain an average 2-day lag in assigned coding charge review work queue.
  • Achieve a 95% coding accuracy rate as measured through quality reviews.
  • Meet production standard expectations set by the department.
  • Resolve medical record documentation deficiencies through healthcare provider queries and provide feedback to correct deficiencies.
  • Assist in educating providers on clinical documentation requirements to support coding and ensure all coding possibilities are captured.
  • Notify the education team to review documentation trends impacting revenue.
  • Escalate identified coding trends that may negatively impact productivity, quality, or revenue to mitigate claim denials.
  • Utilize coding resources and reference materials to ensure accuracy in coding for assigned services.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/Entity and comply with reporting requirements.
  • 7 years of mid-level ICD-10 CPT coding experience.
  • Knowledge of coding guidelines and third-party documentation requirements.
  • Understanding of E & M codes, surgical/procedure codes, and requirements for coding.
  • Ability to utilize multiple hospital programs simultaneously to complete assignments.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with physicians and office staff in a tactful manner.
  • Experience with 3M encoder for validation of RVUs and CPT procedure bundling.
  • Familiarity with CMS guidelines for coding.
