About The Position

The Youth Caregiver assists in providing for the daily care, safety, and welfare for a cottage program of up to 12 youth. This role involves providing trauma-informed care to youth, ensuring their safety and security in the residential program. The position includes transportation of children in an approved agency vehicle and providing and documenting Behavioral Health Overlay Services to children under the direction of the Individual/Family/Therapist. The Youth Caregiver participates in the organization's performance and quality improvement efforts, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS), educational services, and enrichment activities.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED with a minimum of 6 months experience working with children.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Valid Florida driver's license with no record of criminal driving offense.
  • Current first aid/CPR certifications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with residents, co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Knowledge of agency's organizational structure and policies.
  • Knowledge of Department of Children and Families rules and regulations regarding the care of children.
  • Ability to drive a commercial van.
  • Computer literate with the ability to operate basic computer software applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree in Human Services related field.
  • One year experience in a residential setting.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in PBIS practices.

Responsibilities

  • Work within the framework of the philosophy, function, and Personnel Practices of the Children's Home Network.
  • Collaborate with the treatment team to facilitate therapeutic relationships for the children in group and individual settings.
  • Serve as the caregiver/advocate for the kids residing in the cottage program.
  • Provide milieu services to teach youth goal setting, problem resolution, educational activities, social skills development, employability skills, anger management, crisis management, group, and independent living skills.
  • Assist the Educational Manager and/or Liaison and/or the System Navigator in implementing educational plans for assigned youth.
  • Assist youth with homework, school projects, and monitor academic progress.
  • Assist the Activities Coordinator in implementing youth enrichment activities.
  • Model expectations by assisting youth with daily routines and chores.
  • Follow PBIS guidelines for rewarding youth and managing consequences.
  • Provide interactive supervision and monitoring of youth at all times.
  • Perform and document required youth accountability rounds every 15 minutes during sleeping hours.
  • Report and document all abnormal or suspicious situations.
  • Maintain documentation within guidelines for various reports and logs.
  • Meet the physical and emotional needs of youth, fostering healthy hygiene and life skills.
  • Schedule and encourage family-style dining and mentoring around table etiquette.
  • Attend and actively participate in treatment plan reviews with the treatment team.
  • Follow agency and professional standards regarding mandated reporting laws.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with clinical staff and therapists.
  • Integrate clients' history and cultural values into the treatment process.
  • Operate within program guidelines regarding discipline and behavior management.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, homelike environment.
  • Participate in planning and implementing therapeutic and recreational activities.
  • Communicate all scheduled cottage plans to the cottage supervisor.
  • Dispense and document all medications given to youth.
  • Prepare for and participate in bi-weekly group supervision with the Cottage Supervisor.
  • Attend and participate in monthly cottage team meetings.
  • Act as a liaison between the program and sponsor/auxiliary/volunteer groups.
  • Provide transportation in agency vehicles in accordance with agency policy.
  • Attend specialized training and staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Respond to campus emergencies as directed.
