Job Summary The Student Surgical Technician assists surgical staff with preparing and maintaining sterile environments, handling instruments, and supporting patient care throughout surgical procedures. This internship-style role offers hands-on learning, building practical skills under the supervision of licensed surgical technologists and surgical services leadership.

Requirements

Enrollment in an accredited surgical technology program, in good standing.
Basic knowledge of surgical technology and experience in hospital clinical rotations.
Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

Nice To Haves

Prior clinical exposure in surgery, sterile processing, or related healthcare settings.

Responsibilities

Assist with duties typically assigned to orderlies and sterile processing technicians.
Print surgical preference cards and “pick” cases to prepare for procedures.
Organize, store, and maintain sterile supplies and equipment.
Open surgical supplies and gather instruments for procedures.
Set up and maintain sterile fields, ensuring patient safety and adherence to protocols.
Assist during surgeries by handing instruments, cameras, and other equipment as directed.
Participate in “buddy-call” system after completion of orientation for hands-on mentorship.
Support a cooperative, team-oriented environment to ensure high-quality patient care.
