About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is seeking a PRN Speech Therapist for Inpatient Rehab. This role involves administering speech and language evaluations, tests, or examinations to diagnose and plan treatments for clients/patients/residents with various speech problems and swallowing disorders. The therapist will assess clients/patients/residents with speech, language, cognitive, or swallowing problems and develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical diagnoses. The position requires providing ongoing speech and language services, monitoring disease progression, adjusting treatments, and instructing clients/patients/residents in therapeutic exercises. The therapist will also ensure compliance with all speech and language related standards, policies, protocols, and quality requirements, and will be responsible for documentation. The role may involve treating individuals of all ages and potentially supervising assistants, aides, and students. Flexibility with work schedules and assignments is expected, and the therapist will interact with various external individuals and provide education to peers. Work may focus on post-acute, long-term care, and home health care environments.

Requirements

Appropriate education level required in accordance with state licensure.
Must be licensed in the state(s) of practice as Speech-Language Pathologist.
When applicable, may require valid driver's license.
Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers required or within the first 60 days of employment.

Nice To Haves

Holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence issued by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) or currently working on Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) (when working at a Sanford Health Facility, not required but preferred by GSS Facilities).

Responsibilities

Administers speech and language evaluations, tests or examinations to diagnose and plan treatments for clients/patients/residents with various speech problems and swallowing disorders.
Assesses clients/patients/residents with various speech, language, cognitive or swallowing problems and develops individualized treatment plans based on clinical diagnoses.
Provides speech and language services to clients/patients/residents; monitors disease progression and adjusts treatments accordingly.
Instructs clients/patients/residents in practicing speech and language therapeutic exercises; provides consultation for clients/patients/residents working through speech and language treatment processes.
Ensures all speech and language related standards, policies, protocols and quality requirements are met.
May treat individuals of all ages with varying diagnosis and disorders.
Will demonstrate documentation in accordance with departmental guidelines and meet all regulatory requirements.
Demonstrates level of treatment associated with their specialty provided to their clients/patients/residents.
Follows and adheres to accepted clinical practice guidelines of professional organization.
Exhibits flexibility with acceptance of variable work schedules/assignments.
Participates in activities to promote the department, Good Samaritan Society and Sanford Health.
Will be interacting with individuals outside of the department including but not limited to: providers, case managers, third party payers, public organizations, etc.
May be asked to supervise assistants, aides, and students as they provide client/patient/resident care, treatment, or other services.
Will be expected to provide ongoing education and training to peers in the area(s) of expertise as determined by the department leadership.
Performs other related duties as requested by manager.
Based on assigned area, work may focus on those receiving intervention in the post-acute, long term care and home health care environments when applicable.
