About The Position

Opening in early 2026, Riverside Smithfield Hospital will bring high-quality healthcare closer to home for Isle of Wight County residents. Located on a beautifully landscaped 27-acre medical campus at 19339 Benn’s Grant Boulevard in Smithfield, the new hospital will provide modern facilities and comprehensive medical services to meet the growing needs of the community. The 200,000-square-foot, three-story facility will offer a range of essential healthcare services including an Emergency Department, Diagnostic Imaging Services, 38 Medical/Surgical beds, 12 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds and 4 Operating Rooms. We anticipate start dates to begin Fall, 2025. Overview A Speech Language Pathologist carries out an individualized program for patients with acute and chronic health conditions to maximize their quality of life and achieve their functional goals. The Speech Language Pathologist may work in an inpatient and/or outpatient setting. The Therapist is supervised by Rehab Services management and maintains a positive working relationship with other health professionals and ancillary staff.

Requirements

  • Masters Degree, Speech Language Pathology (Required)
  • 1 year Speech Language Pathology (Preferred)
  • Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) - The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Upon Hire(Required)
  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) within 30 Days(Required)
  • Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) Upon Hire(Required)
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for evaluating and diagnosing speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders.
  • Provides aural rehabilitation for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Provides augmentative and alternative communication systems for severe expressive and/or language comprehension disorders such as ASD or progressive neurological disorders.
  • Provides training and education to family/caregivers and other professionals.
  • Carries out treatment plan and modifies to maximize therapeutic benefit and meet discharge criteria and return to optimal level of care.
  • Records patient's progress and modifies the plan of care.
  • Builds trusting collaborative relationships with a multi-disciplinary team to support patient care needs.
  • Actively participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings.
  • Assists in training and support of all team members, volunteers and students.
