About The Position

Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center is a 444-bed hospital recognized for pairing clinical expertise with advanced medical technology to deliver exceptional care. As a Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center, it provides leading-edge treatment for stroke recovery. The facility also offers specialized services in bariatric surgery, robotic surgery, minimally invasive spine procedures, and advanced orthopedic care. Fort Sanders Regional is part of Covenant Health, East Tennessee’s largest nonprofit health system and a Becker’s “Top 150 Places to Work in Healthcare.” The position involves providing professional nursing care within an assigned unit and coordinating care planning with other disciplines. RNs in this position must commit to working hours set by the Tier 3 commitment agreement.

Requirements

  • Minimum Education: Sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority
  • Minimum Experience: New graduate, within first (1st) year of orientation
  • Licensure Requirement: Must have and maintain Tennessee State RN license

Responsibilities

  • Provides professional nursing care within an assigned unit
  • Coordinates care planning with other disciplines
  • Commits to working hours set by the Tier 3 commitment agreement
  • Completes nursing history and initiates patient education
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members
  • Implements plan of care appropriate to diagnosis
  • Evaluates care outcomes
  • Problem solves and coordinates unit/patient care assignments, with supervision (for RNs with less than 1 year of experience)
  • Introduces new employees/students to unit routines
  • Participates on unit-based committees
  • Demonstrates competence in performing critical skills (checklist) to include appropriate delivery of care according to the age-specific needs of the population served
  • Supervises LPNs, Nursing Assistants, HUCs, Techs and sitters
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards
  • Completes required education assignments annually
  • Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Correlates patient history and support systems within hospital care/nursing home care (for RNs with 1 or more years of experience)
  • Assesses learning needs of patient and family (for RNs with 1 or more years of experience)
  • Develops and initiates plan of care, involving patient and family (for RNs with 1 or more years of experience)
  • Recommends interventions (for RNs with 1 or more years of experience)
  • Evaluates plan of care (for RNs with 1 or more years of experience)
  • Resolves problems regarding moderately complex issues without oversight or supervision (for RNs with 1 or more years of experience)
  • Demonstrates willingness to precept employees/students as directed (for RNs with 1 or more years of experience)
  • Reviews clinical performance of preceptee with unit leader or clinical instructor (for RNs with 1 or more years of experience)
