Hillcrest Hospital’s Pediatric Short Stay Unit is a dedicated 10-bed facility designed to provide short-term medical care and observation for children requiring hospital-level treatment for less than 24 to 48 hours. The unit is ideal for managing acute illnesses, post-operative recovery, diagnostic observation, and treatment requiring brief hospitalization. As RN in this unit, you will use your comprehensive skills and expertise to ensure patients have the care they need quickly. This position allows you to float to the Pediatric and Adult Emergency Department, allowing you to care for a diverse population. You will have the support of your fellow caregivers assisting you, offering a cohesive, encouraging and constructive front to enhance the patient's experience and your skills as a nurse. How You’ll Benefit Our Center for Workplace Violence Prevention and Caregiver Well-Being sets caregiver safety as a priority, identifying, reporting and responding to incidents and providing safety resources. A caregiver in this position PRN (as needed) variable shifts with one weekend within a six-week period and 2 holidays per year.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (ADN or BSN program)
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
• External applicants must have two years recent related nursing experience. Internal applicants with less than two years’ experience but post orientation /90 day probationary period could be considered with Chief Nursing Officer level review and approval. Will consider military RN experience
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR the American Red Cross
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR American Red Cross
• Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC - pediatric) upon hire or within 24 months of beginning work in the Emergency Department.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR American Red Cross within one year of hire

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN)
• Pediatric experience

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care.
• Implement and monitor patient care plans.
• Monitor, record and communicate patients’ conditions.
• Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
• Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
• Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.
