Hillcrest Hospital’s Pediatric Short Stay Unit is a dedicated 10-bed facility designed to provide short-term medical care and observation for children requiring hospital-level treatment for less than 24 to 48 hours. The unit is ideal for managing acute illnesses, post-operative recovery, diagnostic observation, and treatment requiring brief hospitalization. As an RN on this team, you will assist fellow caregivers in delivering exceptional care by interacting directly with patients, families, and visitors, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and supply healthcare information as needed. This position requires a caregiver who is empathetic, understanding and nurturing to ensure quality patient care and effective life-saving treatment. This role also provides the opportunity to float to the Pediatric Emergency Department.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC - pediatric) upon hire or within 24 months of beginning work in the Emergency Department.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within one year of hire
  • External candidates: two years of recent related nursing experience
  • Internal candidates with less than two years of experience, but are post-orientation/90-day probationary period, may be considered with CNO level review and approval
  • Licensed military RN experience will be considered

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN)
  • ICU or critical care experience
  • Pediatric Emergency Department experience
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care.
  • Implement and monitor patient care plans.
  • Monitor, record and communicate patients’ conditions.
  • Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
  • Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
  • Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.
