Hillcrest Hospital’s Pediatric Emergency Department provides pediatric care services in child-friendly waiting rooms where they have more privacy and comfort. This department is staffed 24/7 with board-certified, pediatric emergency medicine physicians, as well as nurses who are certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support and pediatric trauma care. The Pediatric Emergency Department has a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) unit which provides children who are victims of assault, abuse or neglect with private care, utmost respect, compassion, complete physical assessments and, if needed, collecting physical evidence. The Emergency Department also has Child Life Specialists who help reduce anxiety for children and their families and provide guidance and emotional support. As RN in this unit, you will use your comprehensive skills and expertise to ensure patients have the care they need quickly. You will have the support of your fellow caregivers assisting you, offering a cohesive, encouraging and constructive front to enhance the patient's experience and your skills as a nurse.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (ADN or BSN program)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • External applicants must have two years recent related nursing experience. Internal applicants with less than two years’ experience but post orientation /90 day probationary period could be considered with Chief Nursing Officer level review and approval. Will consider military RN experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR the American Red Cross
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR American Red Cross
  • Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC - pediatric) upon hire or within 24 months of beginning work in the Emergency Department.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR American Red Cross within one year of hire

  • Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN)

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care.
  • Implement and monitor patient care plans.
  • Monitor, record and communicate patients’ conditions.
  • Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
  • Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
  • Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.
