About The Position

The Registered Nurse for the 2 East Surgical unit is responsible for implementing, directing, and coordinating patient care through the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This position focuses on surgical patients, including those undergoing orthopedic, urology, and bariatric procedures. The role requires a minimum commitment of 24 hours off shift per 6-week schedule, with 12-hour shifts that may include day, evening, or night hours, as well as weekends and holidays as needed. The position also includes eligibility for shift and weekend differentials. An individualized orientation program with knowledgeable preceptors is provided to enhance clinical skills and professional development within the Med-Surg environment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • Evidence of participation in educational programs to maintain current knowledge and clinical skills.
  • Experience applying customer service behaviors and communication skills required.
  • Previous nursing experience in specialty area preferred.
  • For specific areas, various experience requirements apply, such as 1-2 years in critical care, ED, or specialty nursing.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in specialty preferred.
  • CPR certification required.
  • ACLS required for specific services.
  • PALS required for Emergency and Pediatric trained staff.
  • CNOR preferred for OR.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates safe medication practice.
  • Maintains a professional image that reflects the employee's role in health care.
  • Completes chart checks to ensure no missed orders.
  • Accurately transcribes physician's orders.
  • Demonstrates therapeutic communication skills.
  • Assesses patient education needs and utilizes patient education resources.
  • Attends 50% of staff/committee meetings and in-services for the area.
  • Demonstrates leadership through the nursing process and supervision.
  • Acts as a resource person regarding patient care and staff orientation.
  • Responds to delays in a calm manner and provides alternatives.
  • Analyzes assessment data and documents on Plan of Care.
  • Uses effective problem-solving skills to plan patient care.
  • Identifies critical factors evidencing changes in patient condition.
  • Completes and documents discharge assessments against plan of care goals.
  • Initiates and maintains Intravenous Therapy according to IV standards.
  • Responds appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Utilizes proper body mechanics to prevent injury.
  • Functions as a virtual nurse as assigned.
